Abia State House of Assembly Holds Valedictory Session on 6th June.

The sixth Abia State House of Assembly will hold her valecditory session on Thursday, to pave way for the inauguration of the seventh Assembly slated for 10th of June.

The 24 man legislature of the sixth Abia State House of Assembly was inaugurated precisely on the the 11th of June, 2015, with Martins Azubuike representing Isiala Ngwa North State constituency emerging as the Speaker of the House upon inauguration.

In less than two years of its inauguration, the State legislative Chamber witnessed a leadership shakeup which led to the impeachment of the then speaker, Martins Azubuike, who was replaced by Bishop Kennedy Njoku and shortly afterwards, Chikwendu Kalu representing Isiala Ngwa South State Constituency emerged as the substantive Speaker of the house till date.

The Sixth Abia Legislature within the last four years succeeded in passing over 45 bills into law, including the Abia State Control of Normadic Cattle rearing and Prohibition of Grazing Route, Reserves Law 2018, aimed at eliminating farmers and herders clash,destruction of corps by herders in the state among others.

Also passed include the law seeking for the establishment of Abia State Micro ,Small and Medium Scale Enterprise Commission, Abia State Identification of Blood Group and Genotype, Abia State Special Economic zones operation as well as the Abia State Close Circuit Television Installation law.

A member of the Assembly, representing Umuahia East State Constituency, Hon. Chukwudi Apugo believes that the laws when implemented have the capacity to turn the state around for good.

Some Abia residents including Barr. Hagler Okorie, Mrs. Chinyere Onuoha , Comrade Chukwuma Emele and Prince Nelson Nnamdi, while commending the sixth legislature for passing good laws scored them low on the area of oversight functions.

They want the also the incoming members of the seventh assembly to be on the toes of ministries, parastatals, and agencies towards ensuring that they are performing their duties as expected.

Tensions are however high as the seventh Assembly get set to be inaugurated on Monday, on who would emerged the speaker of the session..
