The Abia State House of Assembly has screened and confirmed the Former Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu as Commissioner Designate.
Announcing the confirmation at plenary on Monday, the speaker of the House, Rt Hon Chinedum Orji said the confirmation followed his screening at the Executive session
Confirming his screening, John Okiyi Kalu said his reappointment as a commissioner is an expression of the Governor’s faith in him and promised to give his best to the services of Abia and achievement of Governor Ikpeazu’s objectives.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Majority Whip and Member Representing Umuahia East State Constituency, Chukwudi Apugo has however declined his appointment as the Deputy Majority Whip of the House.
In his explanation, he said his decision to relinquish the position followed consultations with his constituent and the party and not done in bad fate.
In another development, the House inaugurated a committee to screen the appointed Chairmen and Deputies of the seventeen Local Government Areas by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu at a quasi plenary.
The seven member committee is to be chaired by the Majority Whip, Munachim Alozie, while Eke Uke Michael will serve as the Secretary.
Other members are Abraham Oba, Chukwudi Apugo, Ginger Onwusibe, Jerry Uzosike, and John Kennedy.
