The House Committee on health has called on the Hospitals Management Board to go back to work and sheath their swords.
The Chairman of the committee, Stanley Nwabuisi also member representing Ikwuano state constituency made the appeal when the management of the health facility approached the committee for solutions to their problems.
Nwabuisi called on the health workers to call off the ongoing strike action at the health facility to allow for superior argument at the negotiating table.
He explained that the 7th Assembly is not happy with happenings as well as the state government but noted that the problem of HMB started long ago, which the state govt have tried over time to deal with.
The committee expressed worries that lives are lost owing to shut down of the facilities and called on them to sheath their swords to help them achieve their aims.
They called on them to give the legislature a chance to look into their matter and come up with the expected results adding that strikes are no solutions to problems.
While noting that agitation is the legitimate right of the workers, he called them to use a carrot and stick approach to achieve its aim.
Comrade Okoro Ogbonnaya, State Chairman Medical and Health Workers Association in response said the synergy between the House of Assembly and the Executive cannot be over emphasized, hence, the need for the meeting.
He said they are owed 13 months salaries noting that Abians are affected by the challenge ravaging the health institution in the state. He argued that their are no checks and balances at the state Government.
Okoro said health workers in the institution especially HMB are relegated to the background noting that the use of parastatals as an excuse by the state government not to pay salaries is unacceptable.
He called for the commitment of the state Government to its decisions and alleged that the salary structure is not adequately followed.
They thanked the house committee on health for coming to their rescue.
