The Abia State House of Assembly has directed its committee on works and project implementation to as a matter of urgency carryout oversight functions on why reconstruction work on Amuda-Mbala road in Umunneochi Local government area has not commenced after approval by the state government.
The speaker of the house, Rr. Hon. Chinedum Orji gave the directive during plenary while reacting to the matter of urgent public importance raised by the member representing Umunneochi State Constituency, Hon. Okey Igwe.
Presenting the matter, Mr Igwe pointed out that the poor condition of the road has affected commercial activities in the area regretting that work was yet to commence despite Governor’s approval and prayed the house to pass a solution compelling the ministry of works to mobilize to site.
Contributing, the member representing Isialangwa North Constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Works, Hon. Ginger Onwusibe explained that the committee had been interfacing with the relevant ministry to ensure roads awarded for construction were executed.
Correspondent reports that HAB 7, the Abia State Specialist Hospital and Diagnostic Centre Bill, 2019 sponsored by the speaker passed through first reading while the house received the report of the adhoc committee investigating the financial activities of Abia State University.
Furthermore, the House committee Chairman on Public Accounts, Anti Corruption and Due process, and member representing Umuahia East State Constituency . Hon. Chukwudi Apugo presented its report on the 2018 Audit Report of the Accounts of Abia State.
The report after presentation by the committee chairman was adopted by the house and committed to committee on the whole for further legislative actions.
