Inside Plenary: Abia Gets New President, Customary Court of Appeal- Nuelsnews


The Abia State House of Assembly on Tuesday confirmed the appointment of Hon. Justice StelaMaris Chinedum Ururuka Onyenso as the president, Customary Court of Appeal sequel to forwarding of her name by the state Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu.

The confirmation came after the house resumed plenary activities for the year 2021.

The Speaker of the house, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji, while announcing Justice Onyenso’s confirmation said that Justice Onyenso was screened at the executive session of the House.

In another development, the House entertained two matters of urgent public importance by member representing Isuikwuato Hon Emeka Okoroafor and the immediate past speaker and member representing Isiala Ngwa South State Constituency Rt Hon. Chikwendu Kalu simultaneously on rampaging armed Herdsmen activities and the recent burning down of Isiala Ngwa South Police Station, where an officer of the Nigerian Police force was beheaded calling on the house to act fast and arrest the situations before it gets out of control.

In his reaction, the Speaker resolved to invite the security personnels which includes the state commissioner of Police, the commander of the Army, the DSS operatives, the Homeland Security and the state vigilante group to the executive session on Monday 8th Feb. 2021 to have an interface with them.

The Speaker who expressed dismay over a series of reported cases across the state , however called on the people of Abia to remain calm while urging the security personnel and agencies in the state to continue fighting to protect the lives and property of ordinary citizens, especially to the areas affected before it escalates to all parts of the state.

The minority leader and member representing Aba Central State Constituency Hon. Abraham Oba in a personal explanation, appreciated the Governor Dr Okezie Ikpeazu for the recent commissioning of roads in his constituency which incluede Eziukwu Road, Milverton and ojike lane which he said has brought a huge relief to his constituents and, thereafter, pleaded for the good work to be extended to Ngwa road axis, uUasi to Ndoki and Danfodio road among others

Oba also thanked the Governor for commencing work on Umuahia to omuma road praying that God will give him more grace to continue his work in Aba.
