Adequate Welfare and Equipment Paramount to Police- Abia Assembly Resolves- Nuelsnews



The Abia State House of Assembly on Monday passed a resolution calling for adequate welfare provision and equipment for the police to discharge their duties effectively.

The resolution followed a Matter of Urgent Public Importance brought before the House by the member representing Ohafia North State Constituency, Hon. Mandela Obasi informing the House of the current tension in his constituency occasioned by the killing of three policemen on patrol by hoodlums in Abiriba which has left the masses apprehensive.

Hon. Obasi who noted that the heads of the deceased were reportedly severed from their bodies called for a proper investigation of the matter to ensure the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators of the dastardly act.
Contributing, the member representing Umuahia East State Constituency, Prince Chukwudi Apugo, his Isialangwa South counterpart, Rt. Hon. Chikwendu Kalu and that of Umuahia South, Hon. (Bar)Jerry Uzosike while joining in condemning the dastardly act and calling on the federal government to properly equip the police, described as worrisome and pathetic a situation where those who are suppose to be protecting the people are not sure of their safety, pointing out that the situation is gradually becoming a recurring decimal and commiserated with the families of those affected.

The House which was presided by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji also called on communities to form their local vigilantees to volunteer information and assist the police and other security agencies in the discharge of their statutory duties of protecting lives and property therefore, commiserated with the Nigeria Police Force, the State Commissioner of Police and the families of the three men of the force who were recently killed by some hoodlums in Abiriba, Ohafia Local Government Area.

Nuelsnews also reports that the State House of Assembly at the plenary passed into law HAB 21:The Abia State in Diaspora Commission Bill, 2020 sponsored by the member representing Arochukwu state constituency, Dr Mike Ukoha before adjourning its plenary to reconvene on Monday next week (29/3/2021) by 10am.
