Rainstorm Wrecks Havoc in Abia State- Nuelsnews

The people of Amaiyi Nvosi in Ehi Na Uguru Autonomous community in Isialangwa South Local government area of Abia state are now counting their losses following a severe rainstorm which wrecked havoc in the area on Tuesday.

The rainstorm which started at about three O’clock in the afternoon, lasted for two hours with heavy wind.

The storm polled the roof of many residential buildings, brought down about twelve electric poles just as the community primary school was not spared as it also brought down two class room blocks and polled the roof of the other building, making the pupils and teachers to relocate to a dilapidated structure.

In an interview with Newsmen , the Headmistress of Amaiyi Nvosi Community Primary School, Mrs Bibian Nwanguma expressed gratitude to God that the havoc occurred after the pupils and teachers had gone home after the day’s activities.

Mrs Nwaguma noted that the rainstorm also destroyed tables and chairs, important school documents and called on relevant authorities to come to the rescue of the school and pupils as the place they relocated to was not comfortable, considering the population of pupils.

On his part, the Central Village Head, Amaiyi Ogoassa, Mr Monday Ugorji said that the community was mourning the situation, pointing out that a woman whose residential building was destroyed by the storm died following the shock and appealed to the state government to assist the community in fixing the school and electricity.

Also speaking, a resident of the community, Mr Godfirst Nwagwu described the situation as unfortunate and called on the members representing the area in both the state and federal legislature to do the needful as they community was in confusion.
