Availability,Accessibility and Affordability of Health Care Services Challenging to an Average Nigerian- NUAHP President.

The President, National Union of Allied Health Professionals NUAHP ,Dr Chiemela Obinna Ogbonna has revealed that at least half of the world population cannot access essential health care services.

Dr Chiemela made this disclosure in his opening remark during the National Executive Council meeting of NUAHP held at Federal Medical Center Hall Umuahia, Abia State.
He stated that according to World Bank and the World Health Organization declaration in 2018, “that nearly 100million people world wide are being pushed into extreme poverty by the cost of healthcare meaning that, after paying for vital health services procedure and medication,they have less than two dollars (900) per day to live on”

He insisted that,”In Nigeria, the challenges of availability, accessibility and affordability of health care services to an average Nigeria is a big challenge due to the poverty level in our society” while he pointed out “that every United Nation Members State has committed to achieving Universal Health Coverage by 2030 as part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and that Nigeria has keyed into it”

Continuing,he added that National Health Insurance Scheme(NHIS)if properly harnessed will make health care services affordable to all Nigerians.

In his speech,the Governor of Abia State Dr Okezie Ikpeazu who was represented by Professor A C B Agbazuere while declaring the event open commended the National leadership of the union for choosing the state as venue to hold their quarterly NEC meeting, which he said was a manifestation that the state is the safest state in the country.

In his words,”Nobody would like to go to a troubled area that is salvaged by terrorism and banditry ,People like to go to where it is peaceful and safe”

He disclosed that Governor Ikpeazu’s administration is labour friendly and that the government labor relationship has been cordial.

He noted that the peace stems from the approach the state Government adopts in settling any dispute with various labour Unions.
Earlier in her welcome address,the state Chairman of NUAHP Abia Chapter ,Comrade Agwara Uchechi acknowledged that one of the strongest point of the current State Government in terms of labour relation is that the Governor never gets angry with labour and makes no attempt to bully or harass labour leaders.

Mrs Agwara revealed that NUAHP,Abia State is working hand in hand with Abia State Government to make sure that Abia Health Insurance Scheme is initiated in no distance time.
She said,”The health system of Abia state is viewed with mixed feelings and we will not say we have arrived until HMB and ABSUTH starts functioning optimally”.

She further said,”Let me equivocally state with all sense of humility and responsibility that NUAHP Abia State has a solution and strategy to get Abia Health system come at it’s peak again, all we are asking for is the will and commitment of the government.
“Cost of Health Care Services Globally is High that Half of the world population can not Access Health Care Services.
